All eyes are on Wednesday’s (CPI) report for January, due at 8:30AM ET, with major implications for the Federal Reserve’s rate-cut timeline, and equity markets.
The data arrives amid mounting uncertainty over President Donald Trump’s proposed tariffs, which could reignite inflationary pressures and complicate the Fed’s path to monetary easing.
As such, investors should brace for possible market swings after the CPI release as financial markets adjust their expectations for the Fed’s next rate move.
What to Expect
Headline CPI is expected to accelerate 2.9% year-over-year, matching December’s pace. Meanwhile, , which excludes food and energy prices, is expected to rise 3.1% on an annual basis, down from 3.2% in the previous month.
